What parents need to know

Parents need to know that PollyPocket.com includes a plethora of interactive games and activities about music, math, finding hidden pictures, and taking new adventures. Kids will enjoy watching the short videos and matching musical notes. The site also heavily promotes the Polly Pocket line of dolls and accessories. The home page alone displays two prominent links encouraging users to browse the catalog of toys. Links in bold print entice kids to connect to other Mattel sites.

  • The short videos encourage kids to embrace adventure and spending time with their friends. However, accessorizing and looking a certain way is also a focus here.

  • The site is heavily geared toward the Polly Pocket toys and enticing Polly fans to buy the various dolls and accessories. Pop-ups advertising the toys sometimes appear at the onset of the interactive games. Also, several prominent banners either hawk the Polly toys or point users to similar websites that are light on substance and heavy on consumerism (Barbie.com, EverythingGirl.com).
  • Mattel will only take personal information from children 13 years or older. The personal information asked for includes first name, last name, and email address, and is used for a member registry to enhance users' experience. If users consent, Mattel may give their information to other companies of similar interest. Information given by adults who care to purchase merchandise is kept private. There are links to other sites that are not protected by Mattel's policies.

What's it about?

Targeting fans of the popular, pint-sized Polly Pocket doll, POLLYPOCKET.COM entices girls with a full spectrum of doll accessories -- anything the cute, perky Polly could ever need to stay fashionable and make life more fun.

Is it any good?

The interactive games on PollyPocket.com encourage creativity and aim to stimulate the minds of younger Polly fans. The videos are entertaining, but without much substance. The biggest downside of the site is that in addition to obviously pushing for kids to buy Polly toys, Mattel also uses so much of each page's real estate to advertise their many links to other toy sites -- not shocking for a toy company, but still a bit much for Polly Pocket-age kids.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about the value of material items such as toys, fancy houses, fashionable clothes, accessories, and expensive cars. Are these things really important to be liked and accepted by others?

  • Talk about how companies target kids to sell products. Did visiting the site push you to buy Polly Pocket stuff?

Po-l-l-l- polly MSG!
Polly Pocket has about two or three games on the website, A LOT of msg, and they want you to buy a lot of things. A lot of adds. It is at least for a seven or eight year old, and this website gets boring once you have tried a lot.

Dolly and cute site for little girls
The new look of the face was way more colorful than the past one. When I was about preschool I always like to go there. Some girls in Prep-Grade 3 may find it interesting.Even though I'm higher than Grade 4 the site still looks pretty fun to me.

This site is accually pretty fun! You can play a lot of games, which are not educational, but, i don't really see a problem with that. I mean you get educational stuff at school. When you go to websites at home, it is to have fun, not to get educational stuff. All girls should visit this site. You can find polly friends and get jewls, and when you have all of the jewls, you get a free coloring page! So come and dress Polly and all of her friends in funky styles and just have an all around good time!
