What parents need to know

Parents need to know that kids can play all of the site's games for free. There's also a place to log in if you have a registered account, which supposedly allows you to view the site without any ads -- although it's unclear how you register for such an account. (The many "remove ads" buttons throughout the site just link to a log-in page with no registration information. The About Us section and Other Site Information also contain no registration information.)

  • Given the amount of dress-up, make-up, and fashion-related games, there's a considerable emphasis on materialism and outward appearance.
  • Not applicable.
  • Some of the dress-up mannequin drawings are in flesh-colored underwear and initially appear to be naked.
  • Not applicable.
  • A make-up puzzle game features prominent Sephora branding; users reassemble puzzle pieces to create an image of the store.
  • No registration is required to play the games, so you can visit and use the site without compromising privacy.

Is it any good?

Girls who love dress-up games should be thrilled with PAPERDOLL HEAVEN -- most of the site's activities involve fashion and dress-up games based on popular celebs like Justin Bieber and Madonna. The good news: The games are free to use, you don't need to register to access them, and they're simple to figure out, so younger users should be able to play, too. Also, unlike its sister site, Stardoll.com, Paperdoll Heaven doesn't have message boards where kids can be exposed to swearing or inappropriate comments.

The site's only real issue is that it could use a greater variety of games. The majority appear to be dress-up games -- even ones in the sports category involve fashion (you spruce up Mia Hamm and Amelia Earhart); there's even a dress-up game involving a dog. If your daughter is addicted to playing dress-up on or offline, she may be enthralled with the site; however, if she prefers puzzle or other games, she might not find herself in Paperdoll Heaven for long.

Online interaction: The site's games provide a direct URL link to copy and paste and send to friends to encourage them to play, too.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about how picking out clothes and dressing up can be fun. But, in addition to how you dress or look, what other things are important, too -- like your personality, and how you treat other people?

  • How do you maintain a healthy balance between wanting to look nice and not becoming too obsessed with your outward appearance?

  • What ways are some companies advertising their products on this site? Are there some subtle references to stores and products you've noticed while playing the games?

This is great site that my child really loves. Instead of buying paper dolls that are way too taxing to keep and clean up, especially if your tot are not that keen on cleaning up--as kids usually are! Thumbs up for this kid friendly site! ~Web Hosting
