What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Everloop was designed for 8- to 13-year-olds, but kids younger than 8 and up to 15 years old can join. Parents must approve kids' accounts before they can join groups, add friends, or post photos and videos; however, kids can post status messages without an approved account.

  • Upon registering, members are told that the site doesn't tolerate (and will delete accounts for) "mean behavior, swearing, cheating, bullying, or generally bad behavior."
  • Some of the games are relatively tame shooting or fighting games, with weapons including slingshots and bows and arrows.
  • Users can be banned for making a reference to sexual activities.
  • The site is monitored for inappropriate behavior and language.
  • Kids can buy 100 Evercredits, the site's currency, for $1. Evercredits can also be earned other ways, such as by referring friends or winning games. Games are preceded by fairly in-your-face ads.
  • Users can be banned for making a reference to drugs or alcohol.
  • Users are encouraged to "be safe online and never share your real name, phone number, address, email, or passwords."  Parents with an account can also opt to personally approve any friend invites their child receives from members who aren't already friends with their child. Everloop offers excellent parental controls. Parents must approve accounts before kids can add friends or post, and can also manage their children's account activity by setting permissions for instant messaging, email, and accepting friends.

Is it any good?

After kids sign up for a free membership on EVERLOOP.COM, they can create a profile page; connect with friends via email, IM, and voice chat; post messages; upload videos; join groups based on songs, math, and other topics; play driving, jigsaw puzzle, and other games and more. The site offers plenty of fun activities -- but safety is its real selling point. Kids are encouraged to add only other kids they already know to their online circle of friends, and Everloop in many ways offers a more secure experience than some other social networking sites.

The site's parental controls are particularly nifty. Parents who sign up for their own account can receive notifications about what their kids have been up to on the site, and can control permissions such as whether their kids can IM and email through Everloop. Kids can connect safely, while parents can manage the overall experience: a win-win situation.

Online interaction: Users are encouraged to friend only people they already know offline.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about using a social networking site to make new friends. Everloop encourages you to connect online with friends you already have. Why would that be safer? Use our social networking tips to guide the discussion.

  • What potential dangers could occur when you meet strangers online? What kind of information should you never give out about yourself to someone you don't know? Talk to your kids about protecting their privacy online.

  • The site lets you post videos and pictures online. What's appropriate stuff to post? And what things might be too personal for everyone to see?

Fun site for kids
Everloop is great for kids who feel too old for Club Penguin, but aren't quite old enough for Facebook. The content is fun, and kids can even prank each other with "Goobs." Unlike the previous review, it is free. The site asks for your credit card info OR social security number. If you're nervous about providing your SSN, the site does charge $1 to run your card and verify you, but then your child gets 100 Evercredits to spend on the site. It's how they keep creepers off the site. And kids can create a profile and customize it without parent approval, they just can't interact with the Everloop community until their parent approves it.

won't appeal
Personally, I think that this is a bit to childish for tweens, it's not really like a networking site. You choose an avatar, a fake e-mail address and more, and it's really animated and childish like. There is nothing bad about it and it's totally safe, but won't appeal that much to tweens.

Great idea, but unlikely to be adopted by kids
It's a great idea ... I checked out the site as a parent and began to get excited. But it has one fatal flaw: It costs money to use it. That means it won't be kid-driven. Instead, well-meaning parents will sign up for it and urge/require their kids to use it. And it means it will have a slow adoption rate, and it will therefore be seen as a ghetto by kids. I would give this my top recommendation if they could have figured out a way to make this work without requiring a credit card.

There is too much set up required. I do not feel comfortable putting my credit card on the internet. It is a fantastic idea but I do not want to give my credit card.

Everloop = Facebook for Kids
This is an awesome site for kids - and for parents! Not only do your kids have a site where you know they are safe and being monitored, but you have a way to track what they are doing without constantly looking over your shoulder. This site is not going anywhere and is, I would say, the Facebook for kids. Sign your kids up before they jump onto Facebook, its the perfect internet safety teaching tool!

what i think
I found this on the computer and it said it was a book club, but it is not.One thing I am iffy about is why does this website need your address I think that is not needed for any reason. And tell your kids be careful of who they are friends with on their because not every one is who they say they are.

Whateverloop
I am a user, and in my oppinion, it sucks. I mean it takes forever to set up, then the parent has to set it up or the site blocks you from half the stuff on it, and it ask for a social security number, yeah sure im a kid but i really dont think giving a social security numbers worth it, AND it cost money so fill in the blanks there

Everloop
I'm a user on this site and I have to say: THE BEST SITE EVER IS EVERLOOP! The social tools are fantasitic, safety runs across the ticker of the site and the groups are prue fun! Also, fun games and Facebook like tools including e-mail make this a fun site. Although the games bit includes games which could be classified as fighting games, but I've haven't seen such games and nothing bloody though
