What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Chatter.myYearbook is part of the popular social networking site myYearbook. It's a news feed along the lines of Facebook or Twitter that lets users post updates and photos and follow other users, including certain celebrities. Users can block profanity from their feed and limit who sees their posts. There's a lot of conversation about sex, and some of the posts are rude and offensive (like jokes about rape).

  • Users can rate each other's photos, and most of the posts are about looks, dating, sex, and celebrities.
  • Not applicable.
  • Banter about sex acts, virginity, and body parts, as well as some suggestive photos.
  • Plenty of profanity, but users can block it from appearing in feeds.
  • Lots of ads, including some very annoying, persistent pop-ups.
  • Some references to drinking and smoking pot.
  • Although there are a lot of opportunities to share personal information, the privacy controls are strong -- users have the flexibility of restricting different features.

Is it any good?

Teen social site myYearbook is getting buzz for a new feature called Celebrity Chatter, which includes live updates from the likes of Miley Cyrus
and Lady Gaga, plus entertainment news from MTV and VH1. Users can also follow their friends or select a certain demographic to follow -- say, all female users ages 20-24 who live in their state. It's not that much of a departure from Twitter -- in fact, some of the celebs' feeds come directly from there -- and the design cribs heavily from Facebook. Chatter does have a few unique features that up the interactivity -- users can post photos to rate, play games, or ask questions for celebrities to answer. Unfortunately, a lot of that content is rude, crude, or just plain boring.

Online interaction: As with many social networking sites, threads sometimes degenerate into flame wars, and some users resort to racist and sexist comments.

What families can talk about

Since this site bills itself as a way to meet new people -- rather than just connecting with friends -- families can review guidelines for protecting privacy online and talk about what personal information is OK to post and what's off limits.

Easy to use..
I've browsed the site, and most people upload them selves almost naked. You get perverted questions, but then again.. The site can't control this. It's fast, and can be fun while rating. Its easy to use, and is like Facebook. You can talk with your friends, it's like a yearbook..but on the internet.

It's awful!! Don't let you kids or anyone for that matter go to it. You may call me crazy but this website was the source for me for years for very inapropriate activity. Sure you have to look for such things but if I found it when I was ten then most kids can find it. Save yourselfs and your kids from destroying your minds.

Gross!
All I can say is..... ewww! It's not a good website! People on it are disgusting! Unlike facebook, where you mostly interact with people you know, you talk to creepy strangers! Someone with disturbing photo on their profile asked someone if they wanted to see his privet parts! !EWWWW!!!!!
