Parents need to know that this matchmaking series features blunt-but-constructive messages for adults navigating the dating world. Not surprisingly, it has lots of awkward dating moments, as well as some sexual references and tips for flirting. Strong language ("s--t," "f--k") is bleeped, and people typically drink alcohol (cocktails, beer, etc.) during dates.
Matchmaking reality series WHY AM I STILL SINGLE? follows Siggy Flicker as she attempts to help woefully single New Yorkers navigate the dating world. The outspoken Flicker has a staff of "love pickers" -- including radio personality Chynna Soul, witty Hayley Raphael, and Victor Goldman, Flicker's only male recruiter -- to help her find dates for the forever single. After observing two new hopeless clients on a test date with each other to see what they're doing wrong, Flicker gives her romance-challenged clients a physical makeover with the help of stylist twins Jamie and Jane Dunn and works with them to overcome their emotional fears and social faux pas. The new and improved clients are then matched with a perfect first date recruited by the love pickers in hopes that they'll find a match.
From big egos to endless talkers, viewers will be entertained by the wide variety of embarrassing dating moments featured here. Flicker also brings an intelligent sense of humor to the whole process. And, laughs aside, she's committed to demonstrating how these painfully awkward events become teachable moments that help people become more aware of their behavior.
Sure, the show is voyeuristic, but Flicker and her team offer some concrete examples of what to do (and not to do) on a date -- which many folks will find helpful. The series also serves as a reminder to single people everywhere that they're not alone.
Families can talk about dating. How is dating portrayed on reality shows? Do you think that's accurate? Should you ever feel pressured to do things on a date that you don't normally do, like drink, smoke, or engage in sexual activity?
Where does the tradition of matchmaking come from? Do you think professional matchmakers and dating services really work? What about online sites? Did you know that some cultures rely on matchmakers to bring couples together?
