What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this squeaky-clean track is a feel-good, positive song about dancing and being yourself. It's worth noting that the main vocals aren't actually sung by the Disney duo featured on the tie-in TV show and music video, but chances are that your tweens won't mind or even notice. Troy wasn't actually singing to Gabriella the first go-around, either. ...

  • Meant to entertain rather than educate.
  • The song is all about being yourself and having a good time. "I don't need what's popular to know what's right or wrong."
  • The video shows the duo shedding their celebrity "image" and just dancing with friends and having fun. "Just go and do what you do, cuz there's nothin' to prove."
  • Not applicable.

What's the story?

"WATCH ME" features Bella Thorne and Zendaya from the Disney Channel's hit show Shake It Up, but the single's lead vocals are actually sung by country-pop up-and-comer Margaret Durante. The video features Thorne and Zendaya leaving a fancy photo shoot to dress down and hang out with friends on the dance floor.

Is it any good?

Although "Watch Me" is typical Disney pop, it's still a perfect party tune for tweens with its positive message about being yourself and having fun. The lyrics say "I don't need no magazine to tell me who to be, and I don't need to pose for p-p-p-p-paparazzi ... I'm just being me, watch me do me." The video shows the bubbly Thorne and sassy Zendaya smiling, dancing, and letting loose, so it's fine for kids -- or anyone who just wants to learn a few new dance moves.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about the differences between a celebrity image and the real person. Do you think celebrities act one way for the cameras or audiences, and another way when they aren't in the limelight? Behind the make-up and fancy clothes, are they just like the rest of us at the end of the day?

  • Do you ever feel the need to act a certain way when you're around different people? Why? Can you give some examples? Is it ever OK to sometimes "wear different hats"?

  • What do you think about the fact that someone "behind the veil" is actually singing most of the lead vocals -- not the stars featured? Do you still want to buy the music? Do you feel misled?

Great for very young kids, but Bella and Zendaya can't sing.
This song is somewhat catchy, but Zendaya and Bella as you can tell are autotuned. Younger kids will enjoy this very much. The message is good, but dont get the CD for your tween/ or teen. I dont really like it so they might not. Why is it that all Disney stars have to sing?

Gives a good message..but...
It is nothing but autotuned pop garbage. I DO like the message, but wish kids these days would listen to something more easy on the ears. :P

Dumb
Get the real version by some other that first sung it, not the one by Bella and the girl with one name it's autotunned so bad. Don't bother...also why do ALL Disney stars have to sing

"Watch Me Do Me"....
The song is telling kids to just be themselves and dance. That's fine, but I don't really like the lyric "watch me do me" it sounds way too grown up for some 13/14 year olds to be saying. They also say they will dance "until I can't move" I'm also not liking that. Bella Thorne's laugh in the song is also so planned and fake that it nearly ruins the whole track. Finally: Disney kids do NOT always need to sing! (Autotune is a horrible way to push a song as well)

Fun dance song for kids
This song is okay. It has a nice tune, and the autotune isn't so bad, but it's more of a dance song than it is a song just to listen to. There's nothing innapropriate in it so it's fine for fans of Shake it Up.
