What parents need to know

Parents need to know that "A Thousand Years," from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 Soundtrack, is melodramatic but clean, with no profanity or explicit references to adult topics like sex, substance use, or violence. Its only semi-troubling line, "I have died every day waiting for you," alludes to the idea that Bella needs to change herself by becoming a vampire before she can be with Edward. Aside from this line, however, the tune is an overall OK choice for tweens and teens.

  • The ballad's message isn't really positive or negative, aside from one line -- "I have died every day waiting for you" -- suggesting that life goes on hold until you fall in love.
  • The song is melodramatic at times but doesn't advocate any iffy behavior.
  • One line, "I have died every day waiting for you," alludes to the idea that Bella needs to change herself by becoming a vampire before she can be with Edward.
  • Not applicable.

What's the story?

"A THOUSAND YEARS" is another single from the soundtrack for the fourth installment of the Twilight film saga, Breaking Dawn Part 1. Like most Twilight tracks, this ballad is moody and bleak, reflecting the series' often somber tone.

Is it any good?

"A Thousand Years" follows in the musical footsteps of Christina Perri's smash debut single "Jar of Hearts," as both songs feature an instrument-rich arrangement filled with piano and strings, along with Perri's pretty, plaintive vocals. While this single isn't especially original, it's still a satisfying listen for anyone who loves a good ballad.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about why it's important to retain a strong sense of self, whether or not you're in a relationship. How do you feel when a friend always dominates the decisions about what you'll do together and never lets you decide?

  • How does the song fit in with Bella and Edward's story? Would you like the song if it wasn't associated with the popular movie?

:D
I love this song! I really don't think there's anything troubling about that one line. It's a very pretty song about love and I can easily say it's one of my favorite songs on the Breaking Dawn soundtrack.

Beauftiful new song about undying love.
This song is beautiful. I love Christina Perri. I first got hooked on her when I heard "Jar of Hearts". She has a strong and smooth voice that is quite relaxing. No sexual talk, language, drinking/drugs, or (though CommonSense may argue) violence is involved in "A Thousand Years". The only issue I have with this song? It was written for the Twilight soundtrack... Yuck!

Christina Perri sings about lasting love.
Its really a great song there's nothing bad about it. Christina Perri sings about someone she is dedecated and devoted to. What's wrong with that?
