What parents need to know

Parents need to know that the song "Doing Shots on the Hood of My Car" is true to its title -- describing people who spend the evening hanging out on a car hood, getting drunk. Though this track doesn't include the violence or profanity that typically appear in Ke$ha's many other tunes about drinking, the alcohol theme is as pervasive as ever. Parents who allow teens to download the tune will want to discuss the real-life consequences of drinking in this manner.

What's the story?

"DOING SHOTS ON THE HOOD OF MY CAR" is another single from party girl Ke$ha that features one of her all-too-common themes: getting drunk. Worse, the singer describes driving around with her friends first, then parking in a far-away place (the Hollywood sign), where they proceed to drink shots and, presumably, drive back home. Though the drunk kids don't destroy property or engage in other belligerent behavior like they often do in Ke$ha songs, the entire premise of mixing cars and alcohol is seriously bad news, especially for impressionable young tweens and teens.

Is it any good?

While there's something to be said for sticking with a tried-and-true musical style, Ke$ha's definitely wrung the life out of hers. Once you get past its spacy electro-pop intro, this song sounds a lot like the Ke$ha hits that came before it. We liked the quirky sound in "Tik Tok" -- which was about a dozen songs ago. At this point, it's just played out.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about the consequences of drinking to excess. Do songs such as this one glamorize binge drinking?

  • Ke$ha describes driving around with her friends, then parking in a far-away place, where they proceed to drink shots and, presumably, drive back home. What would be the real-life consequences of this behavior?

  • Why do you think Ke$ha continues to put out music that celebrates partying and drinking? Would she still be popular if she sang about other topics?

Not her best, but pretty good
Ke$ha did have some good songs in her album animal and her ep cannibal. They kind've got a little annoying after a while though and I'm sure a lot of people really wanted a new song from her already. This maybe a new song, but it definately sounds a little similar to some of her songs. I'm not saying this song is bad because I am a ke$ha fan, but a lot of her older songs are better. This songs will probably be good for a couple plays but after that, you'll get tired of it.

Shots on the hood of my car?
I'm not sure why this has been reviewed, due to the fact that, as of writing this, "Shots on the Hood of my Car" is an unreleased song. Along with Ke$ha's other unreleased songs, this is not planned to be on her upcoming album. Nevertheless, "Shots on the Hood of my Car" has far less drinking then you'd expect. Theirs the repeated line "Doing shots on the hood of my car" and one line about buying alcohol. Also, the song actually talks about how Ke$ha would want to go out with a bang should the world end. It's actually worth listening, if you have an ear for it.

BORING
CSM this is an UNRELEASED song you weirdos! It does mention shots and drinking, but I honestly don't think drinking and stuff is the worse. I think this song is boring.
