Parents need to know that this soundtrack is from Disney's High School Musical spin-off about uber-diva Sharpay and her adventure in the Big Apple trying to make it as a Broadway star. The music is all about reaching for your dreams and taking your turn to shine -- in other words, the usual squeaky-clean Disney content that's fine for kids.
High School Musical drama queen Sharpay Evans has finally made it to the Great White Way -- sort of. SHARPAY'S FABULOUS ADVENTURE SOUNDTRACK features Ashley Tisdale reprising her High School Musical diva role, but this time she's the small fish in a really big pond. The album's six songs include a cover of Justin Bieber's "Baby" by Lucas Grabeel, who once again plays Sharpay's brother, Ryan, as well as a song by Shawn Moliko.
Priss that she is, it's hard not to like Sharpay Evans. Yes, she has an unwavering need to wear glittery hot pink, but her sheer determination and belief that she's meant to be a shining star make her someone you love to watch and listen to. The four songs she sings, which could be rejects from High School Musical, showcase Tisdale's serious singing chops, while Grabeel's "Baby" cover might give Bieber a run for his money. The soundtrack is nothing earth-shattering, but for fans of HSM, it's a nice reprisal of its most colorful characters.
Families can talk about the way that shows or movies capitalize on their success by having a spin-off. Do you think these spin-offs are always successful? Why or why not?
Sharpay is such a defining character for Ashley Tisdale; do you think she'll ever be able to "break free" from her? How do you think actors and singers keep from being stereotyped? Or can they? Would this movie be as successful were it simply Ashley Tisdale starring in it and not Sharpay?
