What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this single from Justin Bieber's debut Christmas album has the expected references to kissing, lips, and being "under the mistletoe" with "shawty." He also sings about lots of other yuletide traditions, and one line references "wise men who followed a star." If you're OK introducing your kids to the mystique of the mistletoe, then this is a fine choice.

  • Meant to entertain rather than educate.
  • Although it's mostly about being "under the mistletoe," this festive tune does get you in the mood for the holidays with images of yuletide and the sound of jingling bells.
  • Bieber sings guiltily, "I should be chillin' with my folks I know, but Imma be under the mistletoe."
  • Not applicable.

What's the story?

"MISTLETOE," the first single from Justin Bieber's debut Christmas album, will have fans pining for the holidays. The easy, reggae-style sound mixed with sleigh bells is a perfect concoction for a cheery holiday song. The video, which premiered on MTV, features Bieber and a Selena Gomez lookalike warming up together under the snow in the streets during the holiday season.

Is it any good?

"Mistletoe" is sweet and hypnotic with the constant jingle of sleigh bells, snaps, and Bieber's inviting vocals about the "most beautiful time of the year." Granted, Bieber is trying to make his fans swoon and smile with his flirtatious words, but he also sings about many holiday traditions ("chestnuts roasting", "making a list," and "wise men followed a star") that make it a great song to get in the yuletide, and, yes, kissing, mood.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about the fact that Bieber is putting out holiday music. Do you think it's a good idea for any singer to make a holiday album? Are you more likely to buy holiday music from someone you already listen to?

  • Why would an artist want to put out a holiday album? Is this an album your family will listen to for years, or do you think it will sound dated in time?

Love the song. But I hate JB
I love this song,I always end up singing with it.But I don't like Justin Bieber. His voice has gone deeper too.But his face still looks as young he was when his voice was still high pitched.

Okay
It's kind of nice, and it's better than his previous songs. Justin Beiber's voice has gotten more deep and mature so I like that better, too. This song is about kissing under the mistletoe, but it's not that bad. I expect that Beieber haters are not going to like this song just because it's by Justin Beiber, but others might like it.

It's cute
Bieber does it pretty well, but look up Austin Mahone's cover on YouTube. He's so much better. Really cute song, though, I like it a lot.

YUCK
Basicully what Justin Bieber is saying in this song is: "I don't care about my family and friends, I just like kissing girls. That's what the season is about, right?" I don't really think this song is classified as a Christmas song. It's just Justin's Bieber's way of expressing is obbresion with girls and their lips. It's gross. He's messed up. Just messed up.
