What parents need to know

Parents need to know that while the song "Mirrors" doesn't include a lot of graphic adult content or language aside from one use of the word "f--k" and two references to substance use, it has a dark message about being able to rely on no one but yourself. This message makes the song too complex and scary for younger kids.

  • The song takes a guarded, pessimistic view that it's not possible for others to understand you.
  • The song is about not trusting others and closing yourself off.

What's the story?

"MIRRORS" is a dark, introspective track by hardcore rapper Lil Wayne. It's peppered with a few graphic words ("f--k") and smoking/drug references, but the song's real maturity lies in its broader message about how you can only rely on yourself: "I see the pain here in your pride / I see you're not satisfied / And I don't see nobody else, I see myself / I'm looking at the mirror on the wall, here we are again / Through my rise and fall you've been my only fan."

Is it any good?

With an assist from smooth crooner Bruno Mars and some golden-throated backup singers, Lil Wayne creates a brooding, mellow groove in "Mirrors." His own subdued delivery adds to the track's dramatic effect.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about the difference between being independent and shutting others out of your life due to fear that they may eventually hurt you. How can you be a self-reliant person and still have close relationships with friends and family?

  • Why do you think Lil Wayne is so bitter here? Do you think celebrities get taken advantage of more than regular people?

Ok song, clean.
Ok, so there an f-bomb. Just get it clean, your kids wont even notice it. The only reason they took this out of Tha Carter IV is because Bruno Mars is featured.
