What parents need to know

Parents need to know that "Marry the Night" is a fairly clean single as far as explicit language and references go, with no profanity, only a couple of mild references to sex/kissing, and one line about drinking whiskey. That said, the overarching message is a mature one about accepting emotional ups and downs as a part of life -- which Lady Gaga acts out in the racy video, which shows her (half clothed) having a breakdown in a mental institution and then working her way back up the ladder to become a star. The song itself is OK for young teens, but the video is best for older kids.

What's the story?

"MARRY THE NIGHT" is the fifth single from the second full-length album by pop phenomenon Lady Gaga. The song is about accepting that life can be an emotional roller coaster. The video shows Gaga mostly naked in parts, occasionally smoking, having an emotional breakdown, and then participating in a dance audition as she attempts to resurrect her career.

Is it any good?

Big, booming organ, synthesizer, and vocals come crashing out of this song at an almost frenetic pace, reminiscent of when Kevin Bacon danced in the stockyard to Moving Pictures' "Never" in the original Footloose. Like the song from the movie, you can't help but get caught up in this track.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about how to cope with feelings of sadness and depression. Is it normal to have "down" days every once in a while? What can make you feel better?

  • What's the meaning behind the line "I'm a soldier to my own emptiness"? Do you think it's better for lonely people to deal with their feelings by themselves or to talk with someone they trust? Why?

Love This Song!
I'm a big Lady Gaga fan, I love pretty much everything about her; whether it's her music, her style, or theatrical music videos and dances, or anything in between. Lady Gaga did great with both the song and the music video. She's shows how she never gave up on her dream of becoming a star, even if some people turned her down. Just look where she's at now, one of the biggest names out there. Just goes to show that if you follow your dreams and you never give up on them, you will go far. Very good song, defiantely not edgy like a couple of her other songs. Recommend this to any Lady Gaga fans.

She should be ashamed!
It's sad that Lady Gaga feels the need to make even the most innocent of things (this one being Christmas) sleazy and all around disgusting! Don't even bother listening to this song! Seriously Gaga? Sad, Just sad.

OK
The lyrics are somewhat meaningless, but has a catchy tune, and the kids love it. Just not the music video.

Good song, iffy video
As one of Lady Gaga's cleanest and most inspiring tracks, "Marry The Night" is fun and all around great. It's about getting over your fears and having fun being just who you are. The video just isn't for kids.

HEY YOU! STOP BEING SAD! LET'S MARRY THE NIGHT!
Great dance song about snapping out of depression or sadness and having a great night! This song is ideal for anyone who is going through a rough time! It really picks you up from bad day! An istant pop/rock classic! Way better than generic garbage *cough* "We Found Love" *cough*
