What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this track is a fun, bubbly song about being in a romantic relationship that consists of mutual respect and admiration. Aside from one reference to kissing and champagne (and the fact that the song's title, "Love on Top," could be considered playfully suggestive), the tune doesn't have any iffy content. It's a great pick for tweens who are learning to value themselves.

  • The song has a great message about making sure that you're valued and respected in a relationship.
  • Encourages listeners to have healthy relationships.
  • Not applicable.
  • One line about kissing: "Boy your lips taste like a night of champagne / And I kiss you again and again and again." The song's title is playfully suggestive.

What's the story?

"LOVE ON TOP" is a clean, sweet love song by R&B phenomenon Beyonce. The track describes a great relationship between two people who always put each other "on top": "Now everybody asks me why I'm smiling out from ear to ear ... I know nothing's perfect, but ... finally you put me first ... You're the one that gives your all, finally you put my love on top."

Is it any good?

A (literally) snappy beat kicks off this super-fun track, with Beyonce's killer vocals kicking in soon after. The tune builds up to big, booming horns and slick harmonies from her talented back-up crew, culminating in a feel-great track that makes you want to break out your dancing shoes.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about why some people stay in harmful relationships. What are some of the reasons that someone might not break free of an unhealthy relationship?

Beyonce, This one is a no brainer.
Beyonce is a terrible role model for women, just listen to her song 'video phone'. That will clear it up for you, if you're unsure.
