What parents need to know

Parents need to know that "Glad You Came" is basically about meeting someone at a party. There are a few mentions of having a drink, and although the lyrics are clean, there's some minor innuendo that implies "hooking up." The video shows some skimpy beach wear and pretty bodies at a beach-house party. It's fine for older tweens and up.

  • "Glad You Came" is about meeting someone at a party and, perhaps, hooking up.
  • Song mentions drinking, and video shows teens that appear to be drinking.
  • Not applicable.
  • Nothing graphic or totally inappropriate, but "Glad You Came" is about meeting someone at a party. Minor innuendo with lyrics that say "You look well on me -- let's go somewhere else where no one can see."

What's the story?

British-Irish boy band fivesome, The Wanted, gives us a reason to look forward to summer parties with their single "GLAD YOU CAME." From their second studio album Battleground, the pop-tech club beat is about meeting up at a party and maybe a little more. The video features a lot of young bodies drinking and having fun at a beach-house party.

Is it any good?

The Wanted is taking this continent by storm with their European good looks and synth-fresh sound that's fit for the dance floor or sandy shore. "Glad You Came" is an upbeat club mix with accordions and enticing lyrics that make you anxious for warmer weather and hot nights. It's not the best song ever recorded, but it's a fun confection that will get you on your feet.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about the allure of a band or musician from across the seas. Do you think it makes a band more likely for success just because they hail from another country or have a different accent?

  • "Glad You Came" will be performed on the TV show Glee. Do you think this type of product placement helps a band's success?

  • Do you think it helps a TV show to use music that's familiar to the audience?

This song will make you glad you listened! Haha I'm punny! Get it?? ;)
The Wanted are one of the coolest boy bands ever. Though the way they echo their lyrics throughout the entire song can get somewhat annoying "Glad You Came" is still worth a listen, and then another, and another. :) The song is about a boy being glad that a girl showed up to a party where they can spend time together because they like each other. There is only one line about drinking, but in their defense, they are all legal drinking age (in the UK, where they're from) and the line is simply what is stated above "Take you by the hand. Hand you another drink." That's it. It's not some horrible 'let's get drunk' thing. I love this song and listen to it in while I'm driving, as well as a couple of their other songs: Chasing the Sun, and Lightning. PS: Jay Mcguiness is my favorite. Check it out! You will love this song from a catchy new UK boy band that is definitely here to stay.

Good for Boy Band Standards
Considering boy band standards, this song is really good. Considering pop music standards, this song is O.K. but will still get on your iPod. Nothing inappropriate, but nothing positive. Just about partying- but not bad partying. No sex or drinking references.
