What parents need to know

Parents need to know that "Give Me Everything" is a song that celebrates one-night stands. While the track doesn't include profanity or graphic sexual references, it makes it seem acceptable to "drink a little bit more than [you] should," meet a stranger in the club, and take that person home for the night. For example, "I can make you feel right baby  / I can’t promise tomorrow, but I promise tonight." It's an irresponsible message for impressionable young tweens and teens in the process of figuring out sexual boundaries.

  • Though the song includes one positive line about turning your life around ("Took my life from negative to positive"), it also talks about throwing caution to the wind by having a one-night stand.
  • Having a casual sexual encounter with someone you don't know isn't the best example for kids...
  • Not applicable.
  • Nothing too graphic, but talks in general about a one-night stand: "Give me everything tonight / For all we know we might not get tomorrow / Let's do it tonight."

What's the story?

"GIVE ME EVERYTHING" is a single by Latin rapper Pitbull, who gets an assist from silky-voiced singer Ne-Yo. Though the track steers clear of graphic language or explicit sexual descriptions, it does revolve around a mature theme: meeting someone in club and having a one-night stand with that person. The glorification of this irresponsible behavior makes the song the wrong choice for younger audiences who are still trying to figure out how healthy romantic relationships work.

Is it any good?

While the formulaic dance beat of "Give Me Everything" is nothing new, the distinct musical styles of both Pitbull and Ne-Yo help to distinguish the song from the pack. As always, Pitbull's Latin-infused rhyming is a refreshing departure from the typical rap sound; juxtaposed against Ne-Yo's lofty singing style, the combination does a good job of keeping you listening for what comes next.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about the potential repercussions of engaging in sexual activity with someone you've just met. What are the physical and emotional consequences?

  • Why are there so many songs about one-night stands? Why do these tunes tend to glamorize the arrangement?

(:
It's talking about "doing it" tonight, like there may be no tomorrow. I really like it. <3 Or you could take it the other way, and say that you need to do thing today in case you don't get to do them tomorrow. (:

Good Song, Review a Little Ridiculus
I think this is a really good song... but it's not okay for kids under eleven, NO YOUNGER THAN TEN. But it may not be appropriate for some kids aged 11-12... it depends on the person. But it's a little ridiculus, because you don't listen to the song for the message. It's to dance. Really? I mean the review...

Its a good song but its not for little kids
there is some parts where they say they are drinking and they say brands like kodak and mays and they also say something about Lindsey Lohan and some sex words

No...
Well today when i listened to the song, i heard pitbull say something about getting a girl "knocked up". Not for kids. This kind of music is the reason for teenage girls' inappropriate behavior.

Good
All it says that is "wrong to me" is "And if you slip, Im gonna fall on top of your girl. It shows a positive message when it says "Dont care what they say, all the games they play, nothing is enough till they handle love"
