What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this duet is a powerful, heartfelt song about "not just making love, but making love last." The message overall is positive, with no actual sex, but the innuendo about "spending the night" might make it too mature for younger kids.

  • Song about a making a moment last and spending time with someone you care about and want a relationship with.
  • These young, talented artists sing a powerful duet about making love last.
  • Not applicable.
  • No actual sex, but some innuendo: "Don't wanna just make love, wanna make love last" and "Don't you wanna hold each other tight, don't you wanna fall asleep with me tonight?"

What's the story?

"DON'T YOU WANNA STAY?" finds country crooner Jason Aldean teaming up with pop rocker sweetheart Kelly Clarkson in an intimate, powerful ballad about the first moments of falling in love and making that love last beyond the passionate beginnings. The song isn't graphic, but the mature theme makes it best for older tweens and teens.

Is it any good?

It's hard to find a good duet these days, but Aldean and Clarkson make this sweet, sensual ballad about "spending the night together" dramatic and memorable. "Don't You Wanna Stay?" lingers in your head with a sweeping melody and harmonies that both singers maneuver beautifully and naturally. Likable Aldean sings, "I really hate to let this moment go, touchin' your skin and your hair fallin' slow"; teen girls (and maybe even their moms!) are sure to swoon.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about why singers might want to perform a duet. How do you think they choose their partner? Why would a country singer want to partner with a pop singer? Do you think it's more related to talent, star power, or media buzz?

  • Although there's nothing explicit in this song, the content is still about a mature topic. What are your family's rules about what types of music and lyrics are appropriate?
