Parents need to know that Coast to Coast by Australian pop prodigy Cody Simpson is about as clean as it gets. The record contains no profanity, sexual references, mentions of substance use, or violent overtones. The only thing that could possibly give parents even a moment's pause would be the lyrics about heaven in the track "Angel." Overall, it's a perfectly acceptable pick for younger kids.
COAST TO COAST is the first six-song EP from Cody Simpson, a teen vocalist from Australia who was discovered by a big-name record producer after posting his performances on YouTube. Taking a cue from peers like Justin Bieber and Greyson Chance, Simpson keeps it super-clean in these songs, singing mostly about how much he cares for his special girl.
"I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz was one of the YouTube tunes that Cody Simpson covered, so it's little surprise that Simpson comes off sounding like Mraz in these straight-up pop songs. The tracks also have a bit of Bieber flair, though Simpson has nowhere near the vocal skills of his much more famous predecessor.
Families can talk about the growing list of young artists like Cody Simpson who are being discovered on YouTube. Do you think these artists should have to go through more traditional channels to get discovered? Why or why not?
How do you think Cody Simpson compares to other peers who've been discovered on YouTube like Justin Bieber, Christina Grimmie, and Greyson Chance?
