What parents need to know

Parents need to know that "A** Back Home" tells a clean tale about a traveling musician whose erratic schedule forces him to be away from his partner much of the time and, as a result, he tries especially hard to remind her he cares even when he's away. Aside from its crass title (which is changed to "Get Yourself Back Home" in the edited version), the single includes one use of the word "s--t" but contains no other mature content or language -- resulting in an overall OK tune for both tweens and teens.

  • A positive message about a couple who makes an extra effort to value each other when a non-traditional career often keeps them apart.
  • Song is about going the extra mile to show others you care.

What's the story?

"A** BACK HOME" (or "Get Yourself Back Home" in the edited version) is the second single off The Papercut Chronicles II by funky hip-hop band Gym Class Heroes. With British singer/songwriter Neon Hitch lending a vocal hand, the track describes a romance in which one partner's job as a traveling musician often keeps him on the road. Because of their frequent distance apart, the two make a special effort to remind each other they care.

Is it any good?

Gym Class Heroes' lead vocalist Travie McCoy has a light, upbeat, lyrical delivery that helps to make their music fun, and this track is no exception. Neon Hitch's exceptionally lovely vocal tone adds even more interest to this song, making it a sure-fire hit.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about the impact of non-traditional careers on a relationship. What are some of the challenges involved in having a relationship with someone whose work makes it hard to spend time together?

  • How might a non-traditional career actually benefit a relationship?

Gym Class Heroes and Neon Hitch collaboration is a must-hear!
Travie McCoy and Neon Hitch together?! Yes! These two could make an album just by themselves. A** Back Home is an upbeat dance song that also carries a good message. Neon Hitch is absolutely beautiful (she rocks that red hair!). I feel dumb even putting this in the review, but obviously the word a** is used frequently in the refrain of the song (unless you get the clean version). :) The video is sweet as well... Check it out!

Recomended
kids have heard much worse words than a** and sh** at school or on tv so its not that big of a deal. Its a catchy song with a good beat

Not so bad for teens
Well, it's pretty obvious that there's the use of the word "a-s-s", so it may not be right for kids/parents who are sensitive to swear words. the rest of the song is pretty ok. It gives a positive and energetic messege. If you want, listen to the clean version.

Good song, bad language.
GCH should change the name of this song

Nice Song
This is an amazing song, and, like CSM says, this song is about "going the extra mile to show others you care". The title of this song does have a swear word in it, but once you get passed that this song is pretty good.

Clean=Okay
This song is not the best, and somewhat not appropriate for young ones. This song, "A** Back Home" by Gym Class Heroes, features inappropriate language for some younger kids. Including a** and sh*t. Clean version is fine for younger ones (6-12). 14 and up is just fine for the un-edited version of this song.

Good, but i've heard better.
This is a pretty good song, but I liked Stereo Hearts better. There is repeated use of a-s, but that is changed to Get Yourself Back Home in the clean version. It is all over the radio so you can listen to it to check if it is ok for your son/daughter.
