Parents need to know that this soundtrack features high-pitched covers of lots of popular contemporary songs, from Lady Gaga to Rihanna, but without most of the questionable or mature lyrics. For example, in the Chipmunks' version of Gaga's "Bad Romance," the lyrics say "I like your crazy, I like all your tricks" instead of "I want your psycho, your vertical stick," so it's certainly more appropriate than the original versions. Kids will love the silly tunes, and parents who can handle the chirpy voices will enjoy them, too.
Cute, mischief-prone chipmunks Alvin, Theodore, and Simon, with their female counterparts The Chipettes, sing a ship-sized collection of popular hits from artists like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Willow Smith on this movie soundtrack.
After getting thrown overboard from a cruise ship, the Chipmunks and Chipettes have to find their way around a not-so-deserted island. While doing so, they stamp their chipmunk style on lots of popular hits, like "Bad Romance," "Born this Way," "Firework," "Say Hey," "Whip My Hair," "S.O.S.," and "Club Can't Handle Me," among others. The chipmunk versions have adjusted lyrics that are more appropriate for younger ears, so kids will love jammin' with their favorite furry trios.
Families can talk about popular songs that kids are exposed to that might contain mature themes or content that's not always appropriate. Can you think of some singers or songs that you listen to or know the lyrics to that might talk about grown-up things like partying or dating?
How do you think soundtracks help the success of a movie? When you see a movie that you like, does it make you want to buy the soundtrack, or vice versa? Do you think music is an important part of a movie? Why or why not?
