What parents need to know

Parents need to know that 11-11-11 is a cheap horror movie meant to cash in on the supposedly auspicious date of Nov. 11, 2011, though it's so bad and boring that it's unlikely to make much impact. The scares are fairly mild overall, with only a few ghosts and ghouls (looking like people dressed in Halloween gear). Guns are pulled, and a character is shot in a dream sequence. Some minor characters die. Language is infrequent but includes one use of "s--t." Characters drink from time to time after tense situations, and the main character pops prescription pills whenever he gets upset.

What's the story?

After the death of his wife and child, successful author Joseph Crone (Timothy Gibbs) travels to Barcelona to visit his ailing father and his brother Samuel (Michael Landes), a priest. Joseph, an atheist, argues frequently with his brother about the existence of God, while he puts serious credibility in the meaning of the number "11," which has been haunting him as of late. Terrible things seem to happen when the clock reaches 11:11, and now the ominous date of 11/11/11 is coming up. A friend, Sadie (Wendy Glenn), arrives to help, but it may be too late. Can Joseph figure out what the sinister "elevens" mean, protect his brother, and stop the terrible event before it occurs?

Is it any good?

 

Earlier in 2011, the director of the original Saw made a very good horror movie, Insidious, using suggestion and off-screen chills. Now, Darren Lynn Bousman, the director of Saw II, Saw III, and Saw IV, tries the same thing, with significantly lesser results. 11-11-11 smacks of being a quickie meant to cash in on a superstition behind a particular date and rushed into production to meet this deadline.

The acting is sub-par, the plot is riddled with holes, and the scares are simply pathetic; they consist of grown people wearing Halloween masks jumping out of the shadows. Worst of all, the movie is excruciatingly boring; not even the scenes of research and discovery bring any chills. Not to mention that, now that 11/11/11 has passed without any doom, the movie is already obsolete.

Not the scariest movie ever, but much scarier than Don't Be Afraid of the Dark
This movie is violent, but not in a gory way, however someone's hands are bloody while scratching a wall and that is the only blood part. There is a car accident off screen. The car accident is shown after the cars are crashed. Someone is shown who looks like they might of died (watch the movie to find out if that person died or not.) Guns are shot and one character is shot. (Same thing as I said before, watch the movie to find out if he died or not.) There are a few s words, but not too many. The good things are that someone is trying to believe in God. Joseph tries to save his brother. They talk about God and how Jesus dies.
