Parents need to know that Trundle HD has a unique, shadowy silhouette art style plus some somber music. While strikingly beautiful, it could come off as spooky to younger kids. The game itself is based on a series of interconnected physics puzzles. Players move a little gear, which rolls across landscapes dotted with increasingly complex mechanical obstacles. Hit a button here, knock a box onto a see-saw there -- it's a bit like working through a Rube Goldberg device. In shadows.
As a free app, TRUNDLE HD feels like the steal of a lifetime. Its breathtaking, museum-quality visuals, paired with superb play control and imaginative puzzles make this one of the better iPad games out there. The brainteaser obstacles can be quite tough, but trial and error is half the fun of the game. Frankly, it can be fun to simply roll and bounce along this gorgeous landscape even if you're stumped. Play around enough and you're bound to eventually notice a trick you hadn't before ("Hey, look -- I can move that rock! And if it rolls down that hill, it should hit the lever below.")
