What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Rhymo is a set of four single-player games to practice rhyming. A minimum score must be met in each game to unlock the following game. Two games involve quickly tapping words that rhyme with the displayed word, picking out the rhymes from a paragraph of random words. Two games involve typing in words that rhyme with the displayed word and require excellent and precise typing skills. The games move quickly, and rhymes are not spoken aloud, so kids will need strong language skills to succeed.

  • There are four single-player games included in this app, and instructions are provided for each game. The games move very quickly and require precise timing. This is designed for adults, so kids will need strong reading and writing skills to achieve the minimum score required to unlock future levels. High scores are saved within the app.
  • A few of the words displayed may reference violent acts, but these are fleeting and not explicit.
  • Not applicable.
  • There is no profanity; a few of the words displayed could be negative or insulting if used in context, but they are just randomly displayed, not directed at anyone.

Is it any good?

RHYMO is a creative and engaging app. The seemingly simple concept of rhyming is quickly challenged by the speed and difficulty of the app, as potential answers quickly fade from view or are lost in a sea of random words. Only three levels of achievement for each level may seem boring, until one realizes that achieving the highest level will take serious focus and skill. It can be a little frustrating when a submitted word is incorrectly rejected, but this is somewhat understandable. Still, only precision "typers" and "swipers" need apply.
