What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Minecraft - Pocket Edition is an iOS version of the popular PC game. It's also a toned down version, eliminating monsters, danger, and resource restrictions. The game is still an alpha build, meaning it's fairly bare bones. It also lacks any sort of direction for users. That's partly understandable for a game that fosters creativity, but it leaves newcomers stumped about what they're supposed to do.

  • The game offers no instruction or hints on what the object is. You're left to your own devices without any sort of instruction about either goals or how to build objects.

Is it any good?

While MINECRAFT is an amazing success story on the PC, this iOS version is stripped of a fair bit of what makes the original game so successful. Users can build structures until their hearts are content, but there's no challenge for them to face. The monsters are gone, as is the ability to mine and craft items. It's akin to being invited to a party, but walking into an empty building. If you haven't tried the game, this isn't the way to be introduced to it. If you have, you'd still have to be a massive fan to enjoy this version as it stands now. Hopefully, as the build progresses, there will be more to do -- especially at this high price.

Really Common Sense Media?
Really Common Sense? Really? This game is in Alpha, and was rushed out due to high demand. The game is already loved by many, and it's next update will have Survival. I lost my trust Common Sense.

Really? No, really, REALLY?
Give it a little time CommonSense, the game is in alpha and receiving heavy updates. Soon this WILL be minecraft singleplayer for the iphone, tablet etc... But, Come on. DON'T post a review yet -_- Not to mention, I'd still give it a 3 star, and I haven't even played it. But i've seen footage. Good day.

Not worth $7.50
It's a abhorrent try by Mojang, though a excellent idea, I think it needs improvment. ALOT of improvement. Unlike it's PC counterpart this game has limits to the map and to creativity.

So-so Game - with some action and little violence required
Minecraft: Pocket Edition is an app which you can download on your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android. It is definitely not as good as the one which is played on computer (however updates are coming out with more mobs, blocks etc). A so-so game for kids and teens.
