What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Fruit Ninja: Puss in Boots is an adaptation of the popular app that is meant as a promotional vehicle for the Dreamworks Animation movie Puss in BootsThe game heavily promotes the film, including a link to the official website, but still features all of the components of the original Fruit Ninja as well as a new mode. Users can share high scores via the Game Center or Open Feint social networks, but participation is optional.

  • If you can swipe your finger across the screen, you can figure out how to play.
  • While the game is about carving things up with a sword, the only thing that suffers is fruit. When players accidentally slice a bomb, though, there's a flash of light that takes away one health point from the player.

  • This version of the game is a pure promotional vehicle for the film Puss in Boots. It features sound clips of the character murmuring encouragement or becoming upset as the game progresses as well as a link to the film's website, which knocks you out of the game.
  • Some privacy concerns. Users can opt in to OpenFeint, an interactive network that allows users to upload real avatar photos, post on message boards, connect with Facebook friends or Twitter followers, and access live chat with strangers. Users can opt in to Game Center to track achievements instead; it does not have chat and connections to other social media within the app.

Is it any good?

Scoff all you want at the fact that this app is a blatant marketing ploy; you still have to give developer Halfbrick credit for making FRUIT NINJA: PUSS IN BOOTS worth the money. The gameplay is just as fun as it was in the original, and the new Bandito mode -- which pits players against 12 random challenges -- is a fun new gameplay style. Like the original, you can unlock new blades, but there aren't many. And the actual Puss in Boots elements feel very tacked on. That doesn't detract from the game, though. It's still as fun as it was -- only this time, it comes with some heavy commercial elements.

Very Fun Game
This is a great game! Since it's all about Puss in Boots I have to mark it for consumerism. It's not all that violent since you are only slicing fruit like any mom would do in a kitchen. But, if you run into a bomb a light flashes across the screen and it says "Game Over". It is VERY easy to use, just simply swipe your finger across the device to slice fruit. It is a little bit educational since it offers trivia facts on fairy tales at the end of each game.

Fun
The game is simple to use and fun for the kids. If you have privacy concerns just make sure that you are using the setting available on the device you play the game on.

Great Game - with action required
Fruit Ninja: Puss in Boots is an app that you can download on your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. It is just like Fruit Ninja, but you just have to complete different tasks. A great game for kids, teens and even adults.
