What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Dash & Ditto's Playground is an educational app for young children where kids play with two bunnies, Dash and Ditto, in seven different games that give them practice with a variety of skills such as logic, strategy, counting, and matching. In Carrot Race, kids race against a gopher to pick carrots before he does. In Tic-Tac-Toe, kids play against the computer, trying to get three carrot piles in a row. In Bus Driving, kids steer a bus down the street, matching pictures of animal friends to animals waiting for the bus. In Mini Golf, kids flick the golf ball into the hole in as few strokes as possible. In Baby Bunnies, kids take care of and play with baby bunnies in a yard. In Jump Rope, kids help an animal jump rope, and the app counts how many jumps they get before missing. In Hopscotch, kids flick or drag a ball to each numbered space in order. Kids can choose a game to play from the menu, or turn on the path and walk from game to game. The app has no active links to any external websites, and it has no advertising.

  • The app gives clear instructions that are well-aimed at the intended age range. The instructions are read to players in a child's voice each time kids play.

Is it any good?

DASH & DITTO'S PLAYGROUND is full of gentle, educational games where bunnies cheer kids on as they play. Kids will enjoy the variety of games, but their quality and functionality are mixed. The computer plays Tic-Tac-Toe without any strategy, which makes it very easy to win. The Hopscotch game doesn't put the ball back to the beginning after kids reach each number, and kids can choose to drag the ball instead of flicking it, easily "winning" the game. The Carrot Race game is incredibly fast-paced, which may frustrate some younger players. Other games, though, such as Bus Driving, allow kids to either steer the bus on their own, or allow the game to steer it. Also, Baby Bunnies is an open-ended game allowing as much play as kids would like. The graphics are very basic, but are cute and appealing to kids.
