What parents need to know

Parents need to know that UFC Undisputed 3 is a simulation of the mixed martial arts league known as the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Players compete as either popular brawlers or they can create their own fighter as they try to win a world title. Since this game involves mixed martial arts, combat is very physical and often brutal and bloody. Scantily dressed women are objectified in the game. The game is also playable online with unmoderated open chat.

  • Although the game emphasizes training and practice to bolster your skills, the action can be bloody and brutal at times. Women are objectified at the end of every round.
  • Depending on how the player responds, fighters can behave like good sports before and after events.
  • Players use the face buttons on a controller for hand and leg strikes, while the right thumbsticks executes grapples and submission moves. The latter involves complex gestures with the thumbstick, but players can opt to use a simpler scheme requiring basic flicks in one direction. The game also features a robust tutorial system that carefully teaches players.
  • Fighters use their fists, feet, knees, and elbows to strike opponents, or grapples and choke holds to get their opponent to submit. Action can get bloody, and some strikes can look particularly vicious. Fighters will show bruising and cuts as they are repeatedly pummeled. Unlockable live-action footage shows fighters being hit repeatedly while being pinned to the floor.
  • Ring girls wearing little clothing with jiggling breasts often prance around in between rounds.
  • Players will hear words like "ass" and "sh-thouse."
  • A variety of sponsors including Affliction, Xyience, Boost Mobile, and Lugz appear at events. During Career Mode, players can take on sponsors and adorn their gear in logos for special bonuses.
  • Creates safety and privacy concerns. The game features online play with open, unmoderated chat. Players may hear profanity and be asked personal questions by strangers.

What's it about?

UFC UNDISPUTED 3 is a straight-up simulation of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Featuring dozens of mixed martial artists, players can choose a fighter or create their own and guide them to a world title in a variety of weight classes. Game modes allow players to climb the ladder toward a championship or defend their title. They can also relive classic moments from the UFC and fellow organization Pride Fighting Championship. There's also a Career Mode, where players can create a fighter and guide them to a legendary career.

Is it any good?

UFC Undisputed 3 is an incredible representation of the sport, adding some fresh wrinkles to make the controls simpler. Grappling and submissions are easier, but longtime fans can still use classic controls if they prefer the difficulty. The game features a thorough tutorial making it very easy to learn. Game options are very detailed, especially the Career Mode where players train a fighter, find sponsorships, and even customize their entrance music. The level of graphical details are striking, as every fighter mirrors their real-life counterpart accurately. For fans of the UFC, this game is a knockout.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about how the game compares to real-world UFC. How well does this game accurately represent the sport?

  • They can discuss the impact of media violence on kids.

  • Families can also discuss how this game presents the ring girls. How are most female characters presented in violent video games?

UFC Undisputed 3
This game is a fun one but there are some things you should look out for. There are ads and sponsorships along with the fighters using some bad words. Also ring girls wearing little clothing walk around the ring in between rounds. Another thing is there is violence with the fighters kneeing, punching, and kicking each other. Overall it is a fun game but may not be appropriate for younger kids.
