Parents need to know that Karaoke Revolution Glee: Volume 3 is based on the songs performed on the weekly television show and the game depicts some of the themes of the show. The game can come bundled with a microphone (it is also sold without it), but in order for more than one person to perform duets, a second microphone will need to be purchased. There are some settings that contain sexually suggestive images and behaviors that simulate drinking. The game can connect to the Internet for leaderboards and downloadable content.
KARAOKE REVOLUTION GLEE: VOLUME 3 is a karaoke game where players sing a song from the list of 34 songs that run the gamut from older classics ("I Want to Hold Your Hand" by the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way," Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are") to more contemporary songs (like "Loser Like Me" by Sixpence None the Richer and Katy Perry's "Firework"). Players sing the lyrics and record points by hitting the right pitch. Modes of play include duets and battles (where players try to get the highest score).
There is little doubt that the cast members of the TV show Glee can sing, and this is a fun way for fans of the show to join in on that singing. But if you're not a fan of the show, the music videos and some renditions might leave some people a little cold. The first time through it's a blast, but you need to be a "Gleek" to want to play it again. This would be a decent party game, though, and the game's graphics are certainly well done. The bundle of the game with the microphone is a nice touch. This is a polished game, to be sure, particularly for fans of the show.
Families can talk about why what is seen is music videos is not necessarily appropriate behavior for teens.
Talk about what makes for good music, why it's catchy, and what messages the music is delivering to the listener.
Parents can talk to their kids about how a game based on a television show is a way to market that show.
