What parents need to know

Parents need to know that GoldenEye 007: Reloaded is less gory than most first-person shooters, and receives only a "Teen" rating as a result. There's plenty of gunplay, explosives, and hand-to-hand combat, but no blood when enemies are hit. (However, blood does splatter on the screen when Bond takes damage.) There's some strong language and adult situations, and players might also be exposed to profanity from other players if they play online.

  • You are cast in the role of the "good guy" who has to infiltrate and stop a criminal organization. However, you'll kill hundreds of enemies along the way, so the overall message is mixed.
  • James Bond is a flawed hero, but he comes across as an inherently good person. His job requires him to kill, but it's in the name of stopping criminals who want to hurt innocent people.
  • The game offers varying difficulty levels, a target reticule for easy aiming, and a distance count-down indicating how far away you are from reaching the next checkpoint, resulting in smooth and frustration-free gameplay.
  • Bond uses firearms to kill human enemies, and can also knock characters out in stealth attacks. There's no blood when enemies are hit -- they simply cry out and disappear when killed -- but blood does splatter on the screen when Bond takes damage.
  • The title sequences features multiple naked women whose breasts and buttocks are visible in silhouette. A couple is shown kissing and groping in one scene.
  • Occasional strong language, such as "ass," "bastard," "damn," and "hell."
  • The game is tied to the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye, and is a remake of the game GoldenEye 007. It features the likeness and voice of actor Daniel Craig as Bond, and actress Judi Dench as M.
  • In one scenario, Bond infiltrates a nightclub and there are multiple references to liquor.
  • This game supports online play with open voice communication. Players may be exposed to strong language and inappropriate topics of conversation.

What's it about?

GoldenEye 007: Reloaded is a revamped Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version of the 2010 Nintendo Wii game GoldenEye 007, which in turn was inspired by the 1997 Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye and the 1995 James Bond movie of the same name. The story follows Bond's attempts to track down and disable a deadly weapons satellite through a combination of stealth and first-person shooter gameplay. The remake portrays Bond as a likeness of actor Daniel Craig and features voice-acting by Craig and actress Judi Dench as "M."

Is it any good?

GoldenEye 007: Reloaded is much more than a simple remake of the original GoldenEye game. It plays like a brand new experience. In addition to modernized graphics and gameplay, there's a wealth of new scenarios, cinematics, dialog, and a new set of Mi-6 missions as well as a strong multiplayer component with a four-player splitscreen co-op mode and online multiplayer for up to 16 players.

The overhaul isn't enough to keep the game from feeling a little dated when compared to the standards set by today's top shooters, but it doesn't prevent GoldenEye 007: Reloaded from being an enjoyable romp for Bond fans.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about the fact that this game is a remake of an older game. Is this something that you would like to see more often? What games can you think of that might benefit from a modern-day overhaul?

  • Families can also talk about whether first-person shooters have to be overly gory to be compelling. This game features far less gore than the average shooter. How did that impact your experience?

Review Misleading
Very violent, their is blood it just a little bit. And enemies fall down then after 10 seconds disappear. This review is misleading. Plus their is a lot of sacrifices, like jame's friend gets killed by a evil general. Definetly for teens. Not as bad as mw3.

Fantastic one of the best Bond games
1st off all there is blood visible at some stages of the game but it is very little also sometimes when Bond subdues enemies silently you hear the crack in their neck. Well parents that is really all you need to be concerned about. Except all off the that it is a really great game and my shooter of the year!

parents read this
Parents, this is your savior. Have your kids been bugging you and throwing tantrums for 'Call of Duty MW3 GTA'? Shut them up with '007'. It's a great first-person shooter, not too violent and your kids won't be complaining: "Mummy Mummy you wasted $99 on a video game which is not violent enough!"

Fun and simple game
This game is an awesome first person shooter. The main quest has cool/fun objectives and very straightforward. The multiplayer mode is good too. You can play online or an alone game with your online friends. The m16 ops is like survival mode, which is hard because there are/can be lots of hostiles who have better guns/items than you do!!

Wii version better
The wii version is better, it's still fun but the ps3 controls should be mapped like most ps3 shooters, not mapped like a 360 shooter.

Pretty Great
If you're an adult reading this, please don't take my review lightly, as I will probably have things you will agree with. If you aren't familiar with the makers of the game, Activision, they're the guys that make Call of Duty, and some other popular FPS (First Person Shooters). However, don't let that turn you off at all, because they have for once made a game that isn't as gory. With no blood really at all, if you're kids play overrated T games like Super Smash Bro's, this is only a little worse, because of the improved graphics. It is a little violent when you do up-close melee attacks, and if your kids have never played Call of Duty, the controls will take a lot a getting used too. Also, like in the movies, Bond shows his knowledge of his liquor, especially in a nightclub scene where just by looking at the label, he can tell a bottle is scammed. But if they are 12+, and are begging for Call of Duty and Halo, but you're not budging, this will give them something to enjoy during the wait.
