What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Club Penguin Game Day is a collection of mini-games based on -- and with the ability to directly connect to -- Disney's Club Penguin web community. Kids with Club Penguin accounts can transfer "coins" they earn in the game to their account on the site. This game, however, can definitely be played be children who don't use the Club Penguin website. The mini-games are designed for four players to compete simultaneously, but can be played by fewer players as well.

  • Friendly competition and good sportsmanship are reinforced throughout. It is plainly stated that having fun is the most important part of playing a game.
  • None of these penguins are bad sports. They have team pride and may boast a bit before a match, but they concede defeat gracefully and remain friendly with the teams that beat them.
  • The controls for all the various mini-games are pretty simple to grasp. Don't expect to walk all over the computer-controlled teams, though -- the AI is pretty tough (on a kid level, that is).
  • Penguins can take slapsticky falls during games, and some of the games allows players to bump one another or throw snowballs at each other.
  • Not applicable.
  • This game is part of the mega-hit Club Penguin franchinse and can connect directly to the Club Penguin website. Kids can download their customized characters from the site and use coins they earn in the game to purchase new items on the site.

What's it about?

In CLUB PENGUIN GAME DAY, four teams of penguins compete in a wacky Olympics that includes events such as sack races, snowball fights, dance-offs, and balancing contests. Kids can design their own penguin avatar (or download one from the Club Penguin website) and use coins they earn to buy costume pieces for their bird to wear. In the solo story, your penguin will pick a team to join and then help that team take over all of the island's territories by winning mini-tournaments against the other teams.

Is it any good?

Thanks to the popularity of the website that inspired it, Club Penguin Game Day is going to have a built-in audience, but even if it didn't have that Disney-approved name behind it, it would still be a fantastic collection of multi-player mini-games. Many of the events are creatively original and all are a blast to play, especially in groups. As a party game, Club Penguin Game Day really shines. It's great fun to see four kids competing to see who can roll the biggest snowball or who can best mimic the onscreen penguin dance moves. The controls for all the games should be simple enough for young kids to grasp and pre-game tutorials do a good job of explaining them in only a few simple steps. All in all, this is another quality product from the Club Penguin people.

Online interaction: Kids who have Club Penguin accounts online can download their penguins for use in the game. They can also use coins they earn in this game to purchase new items on the site.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about marketing synergy. Is this game meant to attract kids to the Club Penguin website? Is it built only for those who already belong to Club Penguin?

  • Parents can kids can also discuss good sportsmanship. A main message of this game is that winning or losing isn't as important as having fun. How can you apply this lesson to real life?

Great energetic family game is good for your body!
This is a great game for both kids and adults! It is fun and entertaing too! The controls are simple. Although there is a lot of consumerism because it is linked to the website "clubpenguin." Which is a live multiplayer online game where people (mostly kids) can interactand play games with each other. All families should play this. And if you are trying to lose some weight, then this came might actually help!

Awesome Game!
This game is so much fun. The activites are great (Snowball fights are AWESOME!). None of the penguins are bad role-models. The dance contest is the most active game- where you dance like crazy to fun songs. I'd also rate it as the Best Game in this game. You can upload your penguin from *clubpenguin* to the game on the Wii. When you buy a clothing item from the games' catalog, the items also go to your account online. Beating other teams in Minigames earn you coins which can ALSO be uploaded to your online account, or used to buy clothing items in game. It sends out good messages like "Stay with it, even if you're loosing!" or "Don't be a bad sport!". The only thing I didn't like is that not all of the minigames are unlocked at first (including the dance contest. :(.). You unlock them by beating other teams in Storymode. If you're wondering how to unlock Jackhammer, you need to conquer the island as one of the teams, then beat a few teams on you're second island conquer. It is the last minigame you will unlock. This game is multiplayer, up to 4 players allowed to play (i don't think 3 players if you're doing 2 vs 2). Great buy!

Better then most kid games.
I found the game enjoyable and not like most mindless cartoon-violence video games nowadays. Appropriate for children.
